All You Need Is Water

As the weather gets warmer, we tend to forget the single most important thing we can do for our health: stay hydrated!

Dr. Batmanghelidj, author of, ‘Your Body’s Many Cries for Water,’ was a political prisoner in Iran during the Iranian Revolution. With no access to medications, he was left with nothing but water to prescribe to a fellow prisoner suffering from peptic ulcer pain. Miraculously, the man was cured, and Dr. B. went on to cure thousands of fellow prisoners this way. After his release from prison, Dr. B. researched the medicinal effects of water and has since written many books on the topic (go to http://www.watercure.com/ for more info).

How is it possible that water alone was able to cure Dr. Batmanghelidj’s patients? Water makes up about 70% of our bodies. When we’re dehydrated, we’re out of balance and the result can be any number of symptoms, from headache to nausea, muscle pain, poor digestion, fatigue, skin break-outs, and chronic body pain. Drinking water is simply the easiest way to stay healthy. It flushes your body of toxins, is needed for good circulation, keeps your organs and digestive system running smoothly, clears and hydrates your skin, and cushions and lubricates your joints. You’ve seen plants that are withered and dying be instantly revived with water, right? We humans are the same. We can go without food for weeks or more, but water (aside from oxygen) is what gives us life.

Even though most of us are aware of the importance of drinking enough water, it can be a challenge to remember to drink enough each day.

Here are a few easy tips to make sure you stay hydrated:

  • Try to drink half your body weight in ounces of water daily.

  • Start your day right with a big glass of water to flush the toxins and rehydrate your system after sleep. Keep the glass by your bedside to remind you when you wake up.

  • Always carry a glass, stainless steel, or BPA-free plastic water bottle with you and make sure it’s empty by the time you return home. You’ll be more likely to drink water if it’s conveniently available, and this way you can keep track of how much water you’ve consumed.

  • When you’re hungry, make it a habit to drink a glass of water first before you sit down to eat, since thirst manifests itself first as hunger.

  • Make sure you filter your water unless it’s spring, mineral, or well water, all of which will be rich in natural minerals. Water from plastic water bottles is not the best choice due to toxins that can leach into your water from the plastic.

  • Spruce up your water with a piece of lemon, some mint leaves, or a cucumber slice to make it taste more appealing and encourage you to drink more.

So drink up everyone, and Happy May!
